Found Images, Mysterious Moments
I was walking to my bus on East 23rd Avenue in Seattle when I saw one of those disposable, cardboard and plastic cameras laying by the sidewalk. It was the kind that wedding planners pass out for the Brides Memory Book. This one was laying in the mud and from the looks of the cardboard "Body" it was well used. I thought well, it probably has snaps of Thanksgiving, Christmas, Aunt Sues Tupperware Party, and little Bobbies High School Graduation, and there were about 6 frames to go.....we're waiting to finish the roll before we send it to the drug store, don't want to waste any film! I looked around and being alone I dropped it into my pocket. You can see some of the mud around the lens and the battered cardboard cover.
I thought about what might be in the camera for a while. Wondering what the right thing to do was. I thought it would make a good post about "Found Images", or "Mystery Snaps"or something. I dropped it off at my local RiteAid 1 Hour lab. These are three of the shots from the camera.
Who are these people? The child is the same in the three shots, but there are two different women. They seem to be classic family snap shots, is this a family? A modern family, an extended family, a melded family? Are the two women the parents ? The firs shot is a classic snap shot pose, "Here we are, smile for 'Nanna". Who is the photographer, the other woman, the Dad, a friend, maybe 'Nanna herself. I like the second one because it is typical in that the subject is small and there is all the background, "...if your pictures aren't good enough, get closer". The last is good in the playfullness, let's make a face for daddy sort of thing.
The three people seem to be happy and healthy, or are these really "Snap shots" of a "Happy Life" with no connection with reality. Does the camera lie ? Are these abstract images. What is real about them. Is the life depicted real life ? Found camera, found pictures, found lives ?
Authors disclaimer; the four photographs above, are not my work. They are the only photographs on this blog that are not the sole creative work of the author. As the "Finder" of these images I feel free to respectfully use them in this context. I claim no ownership or authorship of these images. I do not hold any persons depicted in these images up to a ridicule or judgement.

A soft rain fell late in the Varsity soccer match Wednesday night between the Monroe Bearcats and the Arlington Eagles washing away all hope Arlington had of not being shut out 4-0 by Monroe. The match began in fading evening light with Senior Midfielder Justin Milne #11 scoring with 35 minutes still to play in the half. Just 14 minutes and change later he slammed his second point past the Arlington “Keeper”, Goalie Junior Andy Kyle #1. “My head hurts”,Kylesaid after allowing two shots into his net.

Red Card!
The Monroe High Bearcats received a soccer clinic from the Snohomish Panthers Monday night losing 5-0 in Monroe. It might have been the Ref asking the Monroe side to change from their bright orange to their black jerseys, it might have been the stiff wind blowing, but the stars did not shine on the Bearcats that night.
The starting Goalie for Monroe,Sophomore,Andrew Chavez #12,fended off 4 corner kicks on goal before the mayhem started. In aggressively defending the fifth corner kick Chavez drew a red card and left the game. Bearcat Goalie Junior,Logan Summers,#2 came on to face Brandon Crutchfield,Senior Forward #5 in the one on one PK,penalty kick. The Snohomish Forward sliced the ball past Summers into the Bearcat net for the first Panther score with 5:15 left in the first half. Drama continued following the PK as Monroe head Coach Ryan Schaffer drew a Yellow Card for his vigorous dispute of the Red Card and PK. The Bearcat coaching staff was admonished to stay behind the Yellow Stripe and near their bench.
Summers stopped several Snohomish shotswhile the Panther Goalie Senior Daniel Carlson #1 smothered the Bearcats efforts to get on the board as the half played out. The assault on the Bearcat net continued with a goal 2 minutes into the second period by Snohomish Forward Junior Brandon Kelly #3. The Panther Side was able to move the ball at will, controlling the pace of the game. They kept the ball on the ground and in play with skillful passing and dribbling using the entire field. With a long 21:26 to play, Josh Petosa,Junior Midfielder #7 drilled the ball past Bearcat Goalie Summers to make the score 3-0. Just 2 minutes later the Monroe Goalie was lured out of the box to allow Snohomish to roll in a fourth point. The fifth and final point of the evening was blasted into the Monroe net with 16 minutes left to play.
The Snohomish coach Dan Pingrey had pulled his starters allowing Monroe to take the match to the Panther end of the pitch but the black shirted Bearcats remained scoreless at the final whistle. The Monroe bench was quiet while Coach Schaffer helped collect the equipment to end the evening. Asked if it had been a long night for his boys he said,"Sometimes they just go that way".
He and his squad are looking forward to their next game ageist Lake Stevens at LS on April 3, 2006. The Bearcats play at Home again on April 5, facing Arlington High.
